Hi,
I am getting the follwing back up error which makes no sense because the iphone is plugged in and I can see it on the computer and iTunes. Anyone have any idea what is going on?= The phone keep backing up but at the end the back up date is still the last date which was 4th of August. I cannot get it to register as 21st August.

It sounds like your phone is for some reason disconnecting unexpectedly when you try backing up to your computer. I would start by using the troubleshooting in the following article:
If you can't make an iTunes backup of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue persists, then you should next use the following troubleshooting article for USB issues between a computer and an iOS device:
