How can I stop safari from giving search suggestions or showing favorites?

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to stop safari altogether and permanently from giving me search suggestions/completing my search entries and filling up my screen with "favorites." I don't need or want safari's help. Thanks

iPad Air, iOS 8.3

In your Safari Menu at the top of the screen choose click on "Safari" then choose "Preferences" and in the Menu bar that comes up click on "Search" then uncheck as many items as may be causing you problems or annoying you. This will fix the problem directly. You can also change the "Remove History Items" by clicking on "Safari" /then choosing "Preferences" then clicking on "General" and the changing the "Remove History" to how long you wish the computer to remember your browsing history. Maybe you can set it to one hour only.

You should not have any more problems after making these changes.

Well see if this clears the Safari cache. You can remove items from favorites and they should never show up again.

Close Safari completely from the multitasking window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Safari preview pane all the way up until it disappears from the screen. You may have to look for the pane by swiping side to side as there may be several there. Then go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Then do a hard reboot. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose anything.

Argh. Hard reboot didn't work unfortunately. Still getting top hits, google suggestions, bookmarks and history, search engine suggestions and favorites. Guess I need to spend some time at a Genius Bar or on the phone. Or switch to private browsing. Kind of crazy to have to resort to that. Thanks for trying to help.
