Q: I forgot my administrator password

I forgot my administrator password and every time I want to shut my mac air down, I had to enter an administrator name and password which I forgot. What should I do to unlock my admin password without losing any data?

Select the correct OS X for help ....

OS X Yosemite: If you forget your login password

OS X Mavericks: If you forget your login password

OS X Mountain Lion: If you forget your login password

If nothing above helped, you may be able to reset your admin password using your Apple ID > OS X: Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password

No data should be lost due to resetting your admin password
