Q: Creating new partitions on a disk containing data

Hi Everyone.

1- I am using a stock MBP 13" Mid 2012, running Yosemite 10.10.5 Boot Camped, with Win7 (OS X 350 GB + Win7 150GB)

2- All this is to backup my data from both partitions, as my MBP won't boot up in either OS X, or in Boot Camp.

3- I have partitioned an external Windows NTFS formatted 2 TB HDD, and have successfully erased the contents, with the Mac OS X (Journaled) option.

4- I can't seem to get the GUID partition scheme to work, so I may install OS X on it.

How can I get Mac OS X installed on the Mac OS X Journaled partition of the external HDD, without deleting/formatting the content of the NTFS partition?

A working resolution for my plight would be much appreciated.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null

The ditto command? Hmm... is this reminiscent of DOS'

More reminiscent of Unix because that is what it is. It also may be the most efficient method of getting what files are possible off the failing hard drive.

Without a backup, that may be your only hope short of paying a drive recovery company a few hundred dollars to get the data off the drive.

Thank you Barney-15E, for your relentless ongoing support. It is much appreciated.

I'll look more into it today and once I've given it a go, endeavour to post the results here.
