"Your iCloud session has expired" message every time I open iTunes or go to the iTunes store

Looking for some help with something that has been driving me nuts for the past couple weeks.

I chose not to renew my iTunes Match subscription recently, and since the day the subscription expired, I have been getting the following message every time I go into iTunes and every time I try to do anything in the iTunes Store:

"Your iCloud session has expired. To maintain security, your iCloud session periodically expires. To reconnect to iCloud, enter your password and click OK."

This happens multiple time a day, sometimes multiple times an hour, and is incredibly annoying.

I don't use iCloud for anything other than backup photo storage.

I don't use Apple Music and don't want to.

I don't want to stream music in iTunes or on my devices - either Apple's music, or music I own and have purchased or uploaded from old CDs. I just want the files on my computer to play on my computer and the files on my devices to play on my devices.

I've seen suggestions elsewhere to delete all your cookies in Safari to address this issue. I've done that, even though I use Chrome for 99% of my web-browsing, and it hasn't helped.

Because of the timing with not renewing my iTunes Match subscription, it's hard not to feel like this is Apple trying to make my life miserable so they can get another $25/year out of me to make these messages go away.I really hope this isn't the case and someone from Apple can give me a clear, simple explanation of why this is happening and how I can make it stop.

I use a MacBook Air running Yosemite 10.10.4 and just updated to iTunes 12.2.2.25.

Thanks for any help.

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), null

Addendum: A week in, this problem returned, so the solution was only very temporary.

My, rather radical solution, is that I've logged out of iTunes and won't use my account again. Means I can't make purchases, but who cares: if I need music it's often cheaper to get the CD from a store. I don't need to be logged into iTunes to play my music, so the loser here is Apple as, in the past, I've bought music and rented films from the store; all that's finished now. It's not going to happen but if enough people did the same thing perhaps Apple would take notice when the realise that all they're doing is producing their pretty iTunes site just for themselves to look at - revenues would drop. Not going to happen, sadly.

Hello,

This might help with the "Your iCloud session has expired" problem.

I contacted Apple Support and they had me (whilst sharing my screen) quit my other applications (Safari, Mail, iTunes, etc), and then go into System Preferences / iCloud.

(Make a note of your settings (I only have Mail and Contacts set - you'll need to reset these again as you wish later.)

Desellect seleted items (iCloud Drive, Photos, etc)

Press Sign Out.

Sign back in, and then select/reselect the items you want to be in the iCloud.

Once you restart iTunes this annoying message should go away; a least it did for me: I also did a restart whilst the Apple Support man was watching, and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Good luck.

Chris
