Q: Cant find Photo on OX operating system

Recently my internal HD on my MacBookPro ( mid 2009) died and I had not backed up in months ( my bad). I purchased an external 1TB drive and a friend helped my by installing an operating system on this drive and he migrated a backup of my personal stuff but I cannot find a Photo or iPhoto on this system, therefore I don't know how to migrate my old photo library.

Can anyone indicate what my process might be?? Thank you in advance

Luisa

What OSX version was on the internal drive?

What OSX version did you install on the external drive?

iPhoto did not come with OSX that was a separate app and is not longer available from the Mac Apo Store. The Photos app was introduced in 10.10.3.

How did you migrate the other date?

I had and now have OSX 10.8.5

My friend says its' impossible to not have PhotoOSX because the installation would not have occurred, but I cannot find anything relating to photos other than Photo booth!

So I am guessing in response to your response since the operating system is 10.8.5 it is not on there.. but oddly enough neither is iPhoto.

Should I try to update operating system?

Please forgive my ignorance in these issues.. still learning so much for a senior citizen!

    thank you!!!

I do not understand this statement "So I am guessing in response to your response since the operating system is 10.8.5 it is not on there.. but oddly enough neither is iPhoto.".

I do not know what " PhotoOSX " is.

As I said, the iPhoto app is a purchased app, it does not come with OSX.

If you Google you may be able to find a genuine Apple DVD with iPhoto. However, it is not clear if you can update the DVD version.

Do y have the installatio disks that came with your Mac? Maybe it iLife DVD is there, iPhots is one component of iLife

I'm sorry I was not clear.. What I meant to say was that I did not know that iPhoto was a purchased app in the new system OSX, since mine originally came with iLife.

Photo OSX is what I believe the new iPhoto is called

I do not have the original install disks and I am not sure how I would install on to external drive which is what I am now using as I have not been able to purchase a new internal drive.

The operating system is on that external drive.

I do not live in a Mac friendly country which only adds insult to injury.  I suppose I will have to wait until I go to the US to solve this.

.  I will try to muddle my way through until I can purchase either a new laptop or a new drive.

Thank you so much or your assistance.

The iPhoto replacement is simply called Photos. It is not part of OSX and was introduced in 10.10.3
