Q: How to connect cinema display with dvi-d single link tot macbook pro

I want to conncet my old Cinema Display (20 inch) with a DVI-D single linh (18+1) port to my new Macbook Pro.
What type of conncetor should i use?

I have tried firewire 800 to 400 but that didn't work.

Can I use a DVI-D dual link femal connector, I can't find a DVI-D single link femal connector?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

    Greetings from Canada ,  Ruud

you might need either HDMI, MiniDisplayPort -perhaps  Thunderbolt ? to dvi. should be active adapter.  I don't know the exact model number of your MacBook Pro so can't help you a lot, alas

firewire won't help you, that much is clear. Check your instruction guide/manual for what kind of video out sockets you have and where they are. the displayport to dvi adapter is pretty affordable, but HDMI to dvi is expensive

hope this helps you a bit

As the replier implied, it depends upon your Model MacBook. Just that model do you have?

Firewire is used to transfer data not output video.

Without knowing what Macbook model you have its hard to say what adapter you need.

However, the 2004 Cinema Display should have a DVI connector. In which case you would need to go from whatever display ports the Mac has to a female DVI.

For a recent enough Mac Book one of these should work:

The rest of the cables on the Cinema Display would be connected to the relevant ports on the  Mac. If your Mac no longer has Firewire ports, then you leave those unconnected, and the Firewire ports on the cinema display will be non-functional.
