Q: cant activate iphone 5 after upgrade/restore

Hi guys sorry for the long post but im lost

To start my screen is cracked and when it with on with the wake/sleep button its ok for a bit then the screen starts to discolour but is fine again for a while after i do the wake/sleep cycle. Pain in the a** i know and makes the process harder.

*Im running windows 7

*Itunes 12.2.2.25 64bit

OK so i have an iPhone 5 running ios 8.4 something (i think) i recently upgraded after having ios7 for a long time. After restore i keep getting errors, mainly error 3004.

I keep updating to the latest iTunes and have tried replacing the host files, turning of fire walls etc nothing is working,

At the moment i wake the phone and it looks like a brand new setup as in the Hola/bonjour i click through till the activate screen and it stalls and gets error.

When plugged into iTunes i get the error'' we're sorry we are unable to continue with your activation at this time''.

When i click on fire>devices>sync (etc) its all greyed out.

It does however let me eject the phone

When i put the phone in DFU mode it prompts me to upgrade and restore , i have tried this so many times via downloading in iTunes, using the .exe from itunes/apple, i have also tried using the official .ipw file and holding shift and choosing that manually with trying update/restore.

Whatever way i try i get usually error 3004 or others.

I just cant seem to activate the phone.

Here is the log file from iunes dianogtics

Clark, after reading your lenghty but good post, the only thing I can think of is to do a clean reset, not w/ iTunes but OTA and first test the phone to see if it works. If so we can try restoring it later or if you are willing, just reset from scratch.

Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content....  then after a while you will be prompted to either set as New or from Backup, select NEW, do the minimal set up to test it and we can go from there. Make sure you have a 100% charge or on power (better yet). I'll re-read your post again for other thoughts....

    Good luck,

    elcpu

Error 3004 comes up when you are trying to install a version of the iOS that is not supported by Apple. Quit trying to use the file you have and let iTunes locate the correct file. This error might come up if your phone has been jailbroken or otherwise hacked OR your computer was used to jailbreak or hack an iOS device.

Since your screen is broken and you are having some problems with buttons it would be far better to replace the iPhone. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. Be sure to back up your device before taking or sending it to Apple.

I mentioned in my post that i did try using iTunes to download/locate the file and i still got the same error. My phone is not jail broken it was my wife's and she gave it to me and i paid the bill, i have seen cancelled the bill pay and switched to a pre-pay plan. My computer may have been used in some jailbreak at some point as im not the only user and my phone worked fine on this computer for over a year syncing and alike, its only since i updated ive had this issue. I also don't see whats that got to do with it

What it has to do with it: When you use a computer to jailbreak a device the jailbreak app on the computer munges the network settings on the computer so it can pretend to be an Apple site, thus fooling the phone into bypassing normal iOS security. Most JB programs are rather sloppily written, and don't clean up after themselves, to the network database on the computer is left in a corrupted state. This prevents iTunes and iOS from communicating with Apple's activation server.

Create a new user on your windows try DFU again.

    Doesn't work, try another computer.

Doesn't work, check if your phone has find my iPhone enabled on iCloud.com and if it does erase it then try DFU mode again.
