Q: Unable to install iTunes on Windows 10

I have recently upgraded my HP Pavilion Slim Line PC from Windows 7 Home Edition to Windows 10, and this is were the trouble has begun. Up on carrying out the upgrade all appeared to run smoothly; however, at a later date was prompted to install the latest and most current edition of iTunes. The upgrade dually ran without any apparent problems. Towards the end of the upgrade, iTunes opened a window stating: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable, Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "iTunes6464.msi in the box below."

I am unable to browse for the requested file as it does not appear to exist.

When I cancel the installation operation I am then told: "The older version of iTunes cannot be removed contact your Technical Support Group."

I have tried everything to rectify this issue to no avail, can anyone help.

    Greetings aljm1230,

My understanding here is that you just upgraded your PC to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and you have been prompted to update your version of iTunes, but have been unable to complete that update. Is this correct?

It sounds as though you may need to manually remove all parts of your older version of iTunes in order to complete the installation.  Note that this should not affect your iTunes music library and media, but you may want to have a backup copy of this just in case. See this article for how to make a backup - Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive.

This article contains info about Windows 7 and 8 uninstallation, but the important things in there are the order in which to uninstall the iTunes components, the section titled "Make sure that iTunes and its related components are completely uninstalled" - Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.

The following is from Microsoft's support site telling how to uninstall the various components listed in the above article -

Repair or remove programs - Microsoft Windows

    1. On the Start menu select  Settings.

    2. In Settings, select  System > Apps & features.

    3. Select the program, and then select  Uninstall.

    4. Follow the directions on the screen.

Once the old version of iTunes has been completely removed you should be able to run the installer for the most recent version, found here - Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Be well.
