When connecting iPad to Mac to sync it connects then immediately disconnects before connecting again rapidly. I have to charge it to 100% and even then does not always work. iPhone 6 has same issues. iPhone 4 does not.

Thanks for your reply. I have an Mac 21inch with 1TB. I have devices plugged into all other USB ports ie external hard drive, DVD writer, Scanner

Disconnect all other devices, then try your iPad again. It could be that the other devices are pulling too much power and there's nothing left for your iPad.
