Watch face disappears before I touch to select something

Every once in awhile, the watch face goes blank before I can touch it to activate a function or app. I can't even power off because the watch face goes blank after I press the lower button. I have to take the watch off, put the battery charger on, and then it will work. What's going on? Should I return the watch for repair?

Hi

Try restarting (or, if that doesn't work, force restarting) your Apple Watch and see whether the problem returns:

Restart Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; Drag the slider to turn off completely; Afterwards, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Force restart: press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
