Follow these steps first:
- To make sure that you're connected to the Internet, open Safari and go to www.apple.com.
- Log in to your email provider's website and make sure that the account is active and that you're using the right password.
- Check your email settings.
- Restart your iOS device.
- Remove the affected email account from your device with these steps:
- Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap the email account.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Add your account again.
tonyamrmom, are you and your husband sharing the same email address? Is this email address the one you use for your Apple ID? If so, I would suggest you have a separate email address than your husband's and create a new Apple ID to keep your iCloud data (backups, contacts, calendars, notes, etc. ) separate from his.
