Disk Utility wont let me Partition MACINTOSH HD

When ever I try to create a partition on my main hard drive I get a error message everytime "Partition failed with the error: Couldn’t modify partition map because file system verification failed." I have tried to fix that with single user mode and my drive seems to be ok?
