How do I find all images smaller than a certain size?
Somehow Photos.app has imported a lot of low resolution preview images from my (non Apple) phone, I'd like to find and delete them but I can't find a way to search for image or file size.

You can search the Apple Photos Library package using a FREE program called EasyFind by Devon software - available in the AppStore. This works better than "Find Any File" because it will search by extension. You can sort by size as well.
Download the FindAnyFile app from: http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Then start it:
Find Items on (make your choice),
in the first choice Name, Contains, set the extension of the photos you want to search, for example .jpg;
Then AddChoice, FileSize, is less than, and add the max size you want to find. Then hit the Find Button.
If if wanted to do it that way I would use find from the command line, but I'm worried Photos might corrupt my library if I delete files from under it's feet.
But I suppose this means that there is no way to do this in Photos? Lightroom is creeping closer and closer... :-)
You can not do this in Photos, nor in Lightroom.
'You can't?' he says, discreetly wiping the egg off his face.
You can in Aperture.
Ah, well, time to do an extra backup. :-/
In Aperture? that does not help if you do not use that 😀
When you do it with FindAnyFile and delete them, they are "missing" in the Photo app, just "remove" them from the library then.
The reason why this is not common or even useful, and perhaps outright dangerous, s because a lot of system cameras (DSLRs etc.) have the option of shooting RAW+JPG.
As a result the sidecar JPG file can be small and look like a duplicate but it is not because this can be the file used for thumbnails.
Ahhh, but in these cameras you can set the size/quality of the jpg (fine, superfine) and these are for a 16MP sensor mostly in the the 4-7MB is size....
Also the in-camera processing is so good that you often do not have to develop the raw files, which saves a lot in your workload...
I have the thumbnails ( very small files) made by the Photo app (LTR6 in my case).
If you delete the "small photos" using the finder you will corrupt you Photos library - you should NEVER make any change to the content of Photos library using the finder or any program other than Photos - it is a complex system of interrelated files and databases and deleting things will damage it
You may be able to find them using a smart album - file menu ==> new Smart album - criteria camera is [the phone these are from]
Then in the smart album select all and right click and delete "n" photos

I squinted long enough at the metadata to realize that there were other differences from the original (large) files than the size so I was able to use a Smart Album to delete them.
I was just too focused on the size because that's how I used to do it in Aperture (I have little use of any file < 25 kB in size...).
Hi rickardg
Any chance you can remember what metadata you used to create the Smart Album? I too am squinting at the options and I can see nothing that will help we weed out images that are small in file size.... (I'm also dealing with duplicates after importing an old iPhoto library into Photos and to be honest I don't know if they're thumbnails or low res files or what, but if I could start with small filesizes that would probably help)
Thanks in advance
If you have PowerPhotos installed as a companion application to Photos, you can open your Photos Library in Power Photos and display all photos in list view. Make sure, that the "Size" column has been added to the list view.
OK. That's odd. I couldn't get FAF to find any files using Name that have extensions like .jpg or .png. But now it is working.
