They can't restore the phone with Find My iPhone turned on. Find My iPhone has much more security than just knowing where the iPhone is.
Thank you. It was just a broken screen. Do they make you turn it off for all repairs no matter what it is?
I do not no what Apple requires or why. I've had screens replaced by a third party and they did not wipe the phone as I recall. It wasn't necessary... but Apple could have a general rule.
My guess is so they can test it. Below is the Apple paper.
