Q: kernel panic! advice?

Hello...

My MacBook has had to shut down unexpectedly a few times over the last month or so and I'm now nervous about what the issue might be. It has just happened again and I'm wondering if anyone can make sense of the details that the computer supplies as I can't see anything that points to a specific bit of software or hardware error.. but I have no idea what I'm looking for so could be missing it...

If I posted the details on here, would someone be able to tell what caused the error this time?

My MacBook is having a kernel panic and so am I!

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Anyone advise on this? I'd like to figure out the issue before it happens again...

There are a few troubling things in this report, but nothing that is obviously THE problem.

You are running two additional display off your 13" MacBook pro using the integrated graphics. That may produce a lot of heat.

Startup Items: (What does this mean?)

        ChmodBPF: Path: /Library/StartupItems/ChmodBPF

        Qmaster: Path: /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster

Startup items are obsolete in OS X Yosemite

This chmodBPF utility and your version of Qmaster appear to be out-of-date. Make sure you have the current versions, or remove them.

User Login Items: (What does this mean?)

        GrowlHelperApp    UNKNOWN (missing value)

        GrowlHelperApp    UNKNOWN (missing value)

        iTunesHelper    UNKNOWN Hidden (missing value)

        N067U_ButtonManager    application Hidden (/Library/CFMSupport/N067U_ButtonManager.app)

        N124U_ButtonManager    application Hidden (/Library/CFMSupport/N124U_ButtonManager.app)

CrossOver CD Helper    UNKNOWN (missing value)

        Dropbox Application (/Applications/Dropbox.app)

Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX    Application Hidden (/Applications/Canon Utilities/IJ Network Scanner Selector EX/Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX.app)

        Google Drive    UNKNOWN (missing value)

Android File Transfer Agent    Application (~/Library/Application Support/Google/Android File Transfer/Android File Transfer Agent.app)

Any of these that say UNKNOWN may be out-of-date. ¿do you really need them all?

Diagnostics Information: (What does this mean?)

        Sep 12, 2015, 05:48:53 PM /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/qmasterd_2015-09-12-174853_[redacted].crash

    ...

a lot of crashes of qmaster daemon. ¿Is qmaster up-to-date?

You have been fairly aggressive about adding a lot of extra Utilities to your Mac. while one or two is generally OK, adding a dozen or more may be a problem, as they start to fight with each other. For example, you appear to have preference panes for THREE different Utilities that read NTFS format. ONE is the right number. The rest should go away.

3rd Party Preference Panes: (What does this mean?)

    Thanks for this. Really helpful!

    • I'm only running one additional display though... I wonder why it thinks two? Could it mean my Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock?

    • I'm not sure what chmodBPF utility or Qmaster are!?

    • I don't need them. I didn't think I had them still. How do I get rid of them? Nothing comes up if I search for them.

    • Still no idea what Qmaster is...

    • I only install things when needed/asked to make something work. Again, I'm not sure what those are for and what will happen if I delete them. I guess if something doesn't work later, I can always reinstall...
