Q: Apple Mail freezes when reading an incoming spam message

I can not delete or operate Apple Mail once this particular message is highlighted.  I have restarted the Mac Mini.  I have run Disk Utility to verify and reset permissions.  I have used the web browser mail page and removed the questionable message from the server.  I can operate Apple Mail satisfactorily if I do not click on this spam message.  How do I get rid of it.  When I click on it to remove the message, the application freezes and I have to force quit.
