Dell UltraSharp U2415 and Mac Mini (late 2014)

I just purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2415 monitor and a Mac Mini (late 2014 model) and am looking for assistance on how to connect them to take full advantage of the 16:10 ratio. As I understand it, if I go hdmi to hdmi I will only get 16:9 - 1080p.

I opted for the 16:10 model so I could get a little more vertical screen space. Thank you for any assistance you can pass along.

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), Dell U2415

Your monitor

has

Connectivity

2 HDMI(MHL) connector

1 Mini DisplayPort

1 DisplayPort (version 1.2)

Best is to use a mini displayport>mini displayport cable. The Thunderbolt port on the Mac accepts a mini displayport plug for video (with audio)
