Can't log into my Mini

Yesterday we had a power outage and my Mini was operating. After it came back on I couldn't log into it. When I tried many times to log in and came to entering the recovery key. That didn't work too till I found out my key was too long. I turned it off last night and thought that leaving it off the night may could help me to try again and it didn't work"

How could a power outage affect my computer in this way? How could it reject the password? How can find my recovery key so I can have it the correct length?

The screen looking as it normally does. It shows the faded look of the wallpaper, as it normally does. It shows my name and my picture to it when logging in, as it normally does. When I had the Apple apple on the screen there was the bar sliding to the right, as it normally does. There was no change in the background wallpaper nor the wheel spinning. The Mini was bought 1.5yrs ago with Maverick in it.
