Q: Apple mail alternative

Hi

New to mac and I'm having a horrible time with apple mail,  using imap settings as I had trouble with pop servers.

Emailing is hit and miss, receiving emails are delayed, sending emails with small attachments takes ages in general it's a terrible experience.

Is there anything better, I used to use windows live mail which for a basic client was on another level to this.

I'm sure others find it fine but It seems a bug ridden nightmare for me.

Many thanks

    Use Mail Connection Doctor

Mail settings you might need from your email provider

Perhaps things will improve if you get Mail configured properly. I have used it daily since it was first released, and it has worked just fine.

    Thanks, settings are correct.

It just seems a by hit and miss, for instance sometimes my emails just disappear from inbox, although I can retrieve them in all emails folder.

Also when I send emails it saves tem as well, I've no idea what that's about, maybe that's not helping with response times.

I might try pop3 again first and if not maybe try outlook?

Saving Sent emails is a big convenience to have. I appreciate having it. However, if you don't want them, then open Mail preferences, select Accounts in the toolbar. Select your account in the side listing and click on the Mailbox Behavior tab in the main window. You can select what you want to happen with Drafts, Sent mail, Junk mail, and Trash.

Note that if you have an IMAP account that your mail data are all saved on the IMAP server unless you choose to save them locally. Saving on the IMAP server means you can access your email anywhere. No need for a specific computer with POP mail. This is especially convenient if you travel or don't have your own computer handy.

    thanks for your responses.

I personally don't feel I need to use imap settings after some thought as I only use 1 email client at home and anywhere else I use just the webmail to view anything.

ok it takes away the convenience of syncing with the webmail but I just found it really buggy maybe its more to do with my email servers that was causing issues.

Anyway I have changed all my accounts in apple mail to pop3 and its much better.

A lot faster and emails don't seem to vanish from folders like they were with imap.

So at present Im happy with apple mail.

In future if I do change back to imap I will try the mail behaviour settings and disable the save to server settings to see if that helps.

    thanks
