Send a hyperlink in Messages.app?

I find it hard to believe there is no out-of-the-box capability to send a hyperlink in messages.app. Has anybody found a workaround to this?

Hi,

It used to be a feature in iChat.

However AIM chats in particular have been prone in the past to malicious coding in the URL behind the text that you see.

The keystrokes used to be CMD + K but this no longer works and does not show in the Edit Menu (Only Clear Transcript does with a Modifier key - ALT + CMD + K).

You can add Keystrokes in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts ONLY IF the item exists in a Menu but has no keystrokes listed.

[Update] The Messages app in Yosemite does not respond to any variation of command-K to initiate a link. You can enable Smart Links on the Edit ▸ Substitutions ▸ Smart Links sub-menu, and when you enter a link (e.g. Apple dot com), it will automatically get converted to a URL.

You can also open the URL in Safari to the website that you want to include in Messages. In Safari, you can choose the Sharing icon and select Messages. This will put the URL of the current site in your message, and you can add your own comments to the text prior to sending. Still not a convenient as on Mavericks with a keyboard shortcut.
