Adding a new printer to home network: HP ENVY 5530

We are looking to add a new printer to our home network. 2 of our systems run Snow Leopard (10.6). One of our systems still run 10.4.11 for a number of reasons, but it is the one system that will use the printer the most. We've looked for parts for the old printer that died (HP Deskjet 6980) but cannot justify that cost compared to a new printer. Does anyone have an idea about how to connect this new printer to the 10.4.11 system. I have searched on line and found one suggestion to try HP Photosmart P1000, but wanted to check here for any other ideas. This community has helped in the past with our quirky questions! Thanks!

Well... looks like the HP website goes as far back as OS X 10.6 > http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-5500-e-All-in-One-Printe r-series/5304881/model/5304882#Z7_3054IC…

  2. HP Support Agent is pretty matter of fact - bad news > http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/Envy-5532-seems-no t-compatible-with-Mac-OS-X-10-4-11/td-p/…

Apparently, the 5330 has been since superseded by the 5332 model so further results pertain to it

My suggestion to workaround since you have Snow Leopard Macs on the network is to shoot the file over to one of them and then print from it. Not what you want to hear, I am sure.

I am pretty sure that Printer Sharing will require the printer driver be on your Tiger Mac (the "pre-flighted - printer ready file" just 'waits' in the printer queue on the Host Mac)
