Macbook powers off when battery is still around 40-50%

Lately I have an issue if I use my macbook for Skype or Hangout calls on battery power the macbook just powers off when battery is still at 40-50%. Also I had it power off while browsing the web with Chrome at around 20%.

I can then turn on the macbook again and it powers up and I get to the login screen. There the time is off. It's reset in my case 31/12/14 21:00 but that means 1/1/15 at 0:00 GMT

After it logs in it loads all previous applications and it's doing that for around 10-20 seconds and then the macbook powers off again.

Any idea what is wrong here?

Thanks, tried that but my macbook still powers off at 40-50% battery when doing a video call

If the date is being reset, that indicates that power is being cut off to the MBP, at least temporarily.

Open System Information>Power and post this from your MBP:

(make certain that the charger is connected)

Run an Apple Hardware Test:

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

Apple Hardware tests does not show any errors.

When I'm not running Skype or Hangouts but just doing email or a writing a doc or so battery goes down to about 20%-30% before power gets cut

That just indicates the test found no errors. It is not a 'clean bill of health'.

The previously requested System Information>Power display may offer a clue.

I do not see anything out of the ordinary in the Battery Information display. I think that your best option is to make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. They have superior test equipment than the AHT. The evaluation will be for FREE.
