I am trying to watch videos for school but the sound is not working. I have the video. Can I fix this myself?

So I take it you have tried the mute button, volume up and down, and rebooting and trying these keys again? Is it just the school videos that have the problem? Have you tried YouTube or other files you know have worked on your system in the past and found them to be operative or inoperative?
Thank you for your input. I tried your suggestions. The YouTube videos have sound. It is just my videos from school. Is there some software I need to get or update maybe?
Ok, since youtube is working we know it is not a hardware issue. What type of video is the school video? Are you using QuickTime or a third party app? Make sure your player supports the video format. Media formats supported by QuickTime Player - Apple Support What OS X version are you running?
