I can not use the edit features. After I click on edit they turn grey. iPhoto was working yesterday

Since you're running Yosemite are you using iPhoto 9.6.1 or Photos 1.0.1?

iPhoto 1 dates from 2002.

Are you sure you don't mean Photos 1.0.1?

Does this happen for all of the photos in the library? Check photos from all parts of the date spectrum to see if they all can't be edited or not.

Also check Photos General preference pane to see if the Importing checkbox is checked or notl

I have this same issue. I am running Photos 1.0.1 (Yosemite). I tried to edit older photos - same issue. There are 3 boxes under Photos General preference. 2 of the 3 boxes are checked - Summarize photos & Copy Items to the Photos library.

Are you able to export the original files to the Desktop?

Have any of you tried repairing the library according to this Apple document: Repair Your Library?

Yes, I can export to the desktop. No I haven't tried to repair the library.

Before repairing the library give this a try: as a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

When I double click photos, the message I receive is:

Your photo library has been migrated to Photos.

You can open it in iPhoto, but any changes such as editing or adding new photos will not appear in the Photos app.
