How to create a precise loop?

Hi there,

I'm attempting to create seamless loops from nature clips. They can be of variable lengths. I was wondering whether there were any tricks to make it as precise as possible.

For example, is there any way to find a frame along the clip that (more or less) matches the first one, so that by cutting in that point the loop ends up being truly seamless?

Thanks,

Z

You really need Motion for this. (I suppose you could attempt the same technique in FCPX, but Motion will make it very much easier.)

These two tutorials will give you all you need to create looping clips:

This second one will be rather long as he sets up the media to be looped (but it's a good lesson though; be patient).

FCPX, we used to do this daily for a client not too long ago, both nature and CGI clips. I'll argue that FCPX is MUCH faster and easier to do this in.

Nature never repeats itself exactly, neither do emitters in Motion. Cut (blade, cmd-b) the clip to match the closest looking frames, or just plain center of the clip. Move the second section to the front (magnetic storyline makes this a snap). Crossfade slowly (3-4+ seconds) for video. Crossfade audio only about 1 second if audio is there. Separate audio from video if they're in the same clip, to do the crossfades. Then just export a ProRes file.

Very simple, very basic, and much faster/easier in FCPX than in Motion.
