Can I disable Favorites in iOS Safari?

I usually use a different browser, but was using Safari last night and it took me forever to get past the Favorites. When I couldn't find anything within Safari, I went to Settings > Safari > Favorites: they are active/ticked and there doesn't appear to be a way to disable them? Using iPad Air, iOS 8.4.

Do you mean within Safari? Couldn't detect any way to do anything there.

And, in the Settings, there is only one entry: Favorites. And that is checked/active. Tapping it does absolutely nothing.

And, @ Demo:

Will try swiping later today and report back on that.

Do you want to totally bypass Favorites?

Absolutely. If I do use Safari on my iMac on rare occasions, I am able to get rid of all of them, thank goodness (but it takes a good 15+ minutes at the initial launch). I don't like clutter and I want an empty page when I fire up a browser. I don't need Favorites - I have bookmarks and I work with tabs. Here is a partial screenshot of my tab bar in FF - much more efficient for me:

Yes, I've done that and they still show up. Thanks for trying to help - since I don't use it for anything critical, I'll just live with the (for me) inconvenient "feature". FWIW, I don't care for them on the Mac OS (Safari) either, but I am able to get rid of them there, although the Safari Preferences there do not make it simple either:

How about a 0 (zero) option..... 🙂

My bad. I know that there are no favorites in Firefox. I use Firefox at work all the time, Duh! I am stuck in the Apple ecosystem and can't get out!!! 😮

The the only way that I can think of to sort of get around this is to create a new folder in the bookmarks window and then move all of the favorites into that folder. That will give you one folder in the toolbar/bookmarks bar/favorites bar ( covering all my bases here). That way, when you tap on the plus sign you will see that one folder only and it will have all of your favorites in it rather than cluttering up the whole window when you add a new tab.

Actually, there are no "favorites" in Firefox - they are bookmarks (and it's called the bookmarks tool bar). Very handy to simply click on one, a new tab opens automatically (that is how I have it set) and the page loads....

And, the tabs do not take up the entire width of the open window, which is another absurdity and they are easier to close as well. I like bookmarks and I like tabs (especially with ASC - without them, I'd never do anything here, LOL). Apparently Safari considers bookmarks and favorites as separate entities so to speak and Apple has decided that everyone must have Favorites.

So, back to the iPad - you're saying that deleting them is the only way? I'd like to have them as bookmarks, nothing else. They are direct links to the European TV movies/shows I watch and last night, I wanted to switch from my just watched channel to another, which is what I struggled with. I finally figured out tapping the + sign will get me another tab, but it showed favorites which I did not want. Apparently, there is no way to get an empty startup page? I will need to play around with that more later today.

FWIW, I usually use Atomic Lite on the iPad - much easier to worth with tabs and bookmarks (no favorites there either), but some of the European channels respond better (quicker video loading/no choppy or pixelated playing, etc) when using Safari for whatever reason.

Emailing really is the easiest way to send one photo to your Mac. If you use Photo Stream and you are still using iPhoto, the photo will also appear in the photo stream on the Mac. If it was me, I would just email it if you are talking about one or two photos. If you want to post the screenshot here and you want to use the iPad to do so, just tap on the camera icon in the editing bar like you do on the Mac, and you can select the photo that way.

That is a screenshot of your Firefox favorites toolbar, I assume. You can turn the favorites toolbar off in Settings>Safari>Show Favorites Bar>Off, but I'm sure you have seen that. It doesn't get rid of the favorites, it just hides them by turning off the toolbar. When you tap the bookmarks icon or the + sign to add a new tab, the favorites will appear on the screen.

The only way to get rid of the favorites is to delete them. But when you delete them, the are gone until you add them back again.

Ok, I've spent a little time with the iPad and I do have a Favorites folder now - but it does show them when you fire up Safari automatically it appears. If I add a new tab and then get rid of the first one, the favs disappear. So, I guess that is how it is going to be with that - as I said, I don't use Safari a lot and, as a matter of fact, mostly use the iPad for either reading or watching TV, so I don't need to interact with it for anything important so to speak unless I am sitting at the car dealer trying to pass the time while waiting for my car (or something similar).

Thanks for your input and ideas - it made me look a little closer and learn something (although it may not be what I really wanted to hear, LOL)....

So why is it that the solved thingy will not respond at all when you hit it until after you've assigned a helpful and then refresh the page....... rhetorical question - not expecting an answer 😀
