why am i required to use a passcode after 48 hours

I set up my iphone 6 security with my thumb print and now phone is asking for a passcode after 48 hours...what is this and why? I don't remember setting up a passcode, is it possible I did not?

No, it is not possible that you did not. The first step in enabling Touch ID is to create a passcode. You will need the passcode after rebooting the phone, or to add fingerprints.
