My Airport Extreme will not connect to my Brother printer any more.
I have configured and reconfigured the Brother DCP-L2540DW to print. It did at one time, but now does not recognize the computer...or the computer does not recognize the printer.
I have configured and reconfigured the Brother DCP-L2540DW to print. It did at one time, but now does not recognize the computer...or the computer does not recognize the printer.
How is the printer connected to the computer.. we don't know??
If the printer is setup to connect by wireless.. ping it from the computer. You will need to find its IP from status page or LCD readout.
If ping fails.. there is no connection .. tell me what IP the printer and the Mac have.
If the wireless connection doesn't work reset the airport and the printer and start over. This is wireless and is always going to have issues.
If you use ethernet or USB tell me because I cannot help without knowing.
If the printer responds to pings.. but you cannot print then you have a setup issue.. delete all printers in the Mac and start over.
Make sure you have the latest driver for your OS.. it is hard for hardware suppliers now with Apple releasing new OS every couple of years.
It was set up using a usb cord, then to wireless. That worked until it was shut down while we were out of town. Now it will not work.
It pings. 10.0.1.8
I have unplugged airport and the cable modem. Is there a different way to reset airport? Unplugging all do it? I have 10.10.5 on my iMac.
I had the brother DCPL2540DW before and it was connected, no problems. It was replaced because of a paper feed problem. The replacement would connect, then not. I reset it following directions from a phone call with a Brother tech. Worked until we went out of town. Did the reset with a Brother tech through chat. Will not connect at all. She said it was a network problem and I should contact my provider. Getting frustrated. Thank you for your help.
Would the fact that I just upgraded to 10.10.5 be the problem?
Yes, if you can ping the printer it is available and on the network.. but 10.10.5 is causing its usual upgrade havoc.
Especially if it worked before upgrade and failed after.. you can be pretty sure your upgrade = downgrade to non-functional peripherals.
Delete all printers in the Mac.. download the latest drivers and start over.
Thank you. I finally connected with a Brother Techie who was knowledgeable and walked me through it. I now have wireless printing again. I appreciate all the helpful comments here.
What was the solution? I have the same issue?

- Verify that DHCP is assigned on the access point so that it will automatically assign an IP address to the machine.
- Verify that the Router is not configured to use access security such as MAC Address filtering.
- Verify that the Router is not configured to use WPA2-PSK with TKIP. The Brother machine does not support this combination of Authentication/Encryption, however it does support WPA2-PSK with AES.
