Q: Why are the songs on my phone different from what's on my itunes? Like a different version?

I have several songs that I downloaded from CD's and now they have been changed to "updated" versions. Like I have Burning Down the House from 13 going on 30 soundtrack on my iTunes on the computer but on my phone it is a lullaby - what the flip? I want the songs on my computer to be on my phone!

    Hi ga2peach,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that all of the music you imported to your computer’s iTunes Library seems to be labeled correctly and plays without issue, but at least some of the music on your iPhone doesn’t seem to be labeled correctly.

If this is the situation, there are some steps I would recommend working though to help get your iPhone’s music library displaying and playing correctly.

First, before we begin any troubleshooting, please make sure you have a current backup of your iPhone in either iCloud or iTunes. If you need assistance making a backup, refer to the attached article below for information on how to create a backup. *Please note that the steps below are applicable if you are not using iCloud Music Library. If you are using this services, please let us know.

The next step I would like you to complete is to check and make sure your iPhone’s software is on the latest version, iOS 8.4.1. To check your iPhone’s software version:

        1. Tap Settings

        2. Tap General

        3. Tap About

        4. The software number currently on your iPhone will be to the right of Version

If you have a version of iOS under iOS 8.4.1, please update your iPhone. You can do this either by using Wi-Fi or by connecting your iPhone to iTunes. The next attached article below explains both of these processes.

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Once your iPhone has been updated, or if it was already up to date, I would like us to sync all of the music off of your iPhone. *Do this step ONLY if all of the music you uploaded from CDs is in your computer’s iTunes library and will play without issue. If this is not the case, please stop here and let us know.

When you connect your iPhone to iTunes on your computer, before we remove the music, I would first like you to transfer your purchases. This will ensure that any purchased content which you downloaded or purchased from iTunes on your iPhone is in your computer’s iTunes library. To complete this process, please follow the instructions in the article below.

Redownload or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support

Once that process has been completed, select Music in the Settings sidebar on the left hand side of iTunes. In the Music pane, please follow the instructions below:

        1. Remove the checkmark from the box Sync Music

        2. In the warning dialog, select remove from iPhone

        3. Select Apply in the lower right hand corner of iTunes

        4. After the sync is complete, place a checkmark in the box Sync Music

        5. Choose what music you would like on your iPhone: All music, Selected Artists, etc.

        6. Select Apply in the lower right hand corner of iTunes after you have selected your music

Once the sync completes, check the Music app on your iPhone and test some of the songs that were mislabeled before the steps. Please let us know if the issue continues.

    Best regards
