Buying my first MAC - Not sure what spec?

hey all.

Looking at buying my first MAC,and am confused as to what to buy / where to buy from.

Looking for 2nd hand (budget orientated)

circa $450 to spend on system.

- Happy to pay for HDD's on top of this (figure it will need them anyway)

- Don't need monitor, KB or Mouse.

from what i've investigated, i should be able to afford a 2010 model?

any advise is greatly appreciated.

Contact OWC, they sell used iMacs and may have something for you. OWC's site is www.macsales.com, they specialize in Macs and are a highly regarded vendor in these forums.

Whether it would be worthwhile or not totally depends on what you intend to

do with it. A 2010 is an okay machine, however it is only a Core2 Duo processor

which is several generation old technology so don't expect any sort of blazing

performance. It will also have a slow (and somewhat small by todays standards)

hard disk drive. Replacing the hard drive is somewhat problematic.

With that said, personally I have a 2010 Mini that I used to use as a home entertainment

system, which it worked quite well, and has no been re-purposed as a home server.
