Q: Mac iTunes update never shows in Mac App Store

iTunes 12 tells me I there is an update available. I ask it to download the update. It opens App Store. iTunes is NOT listed as an available update. I search for an Apple program (Garage Band). I click on the Apple Inc link to see all Apple apps. iTunes is not listed as an Apple app.

Why is my iTunes update not working? Sure I can download from apple.com but why?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10), x 2

Because applications for your computer are not in the iTunes App Store. The iTunes Store is only for apps for an i-device such as an iPhone, iPad, or iPod running iOS.  iTunes application updates will be in the Mac App Store for OSX for which there is probably an icon in your Dock.

    Thanks for the reply.

However, I guess I should have said, "it opens the MAC App Store" but I thought that was implied by the fact that I'm on my iMac and trying to update iTunes 12, not the music app on an iDevice.

To reiterate, the Mac app "iTunes" is not visible in the MAC App Store App on my iMac, either as an update OR as an app when I search for apps published by Apple.

I will add that I've gone here Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support and made sure iTunes isn't hidden.
