MacBook Air screen is grey with vertical lines

MY macbook air is starting up

with a grey screen and vertical lines. This started in the morning with no apparent reason other than performing diagnostics because it was very slow.

IT has also been freezing up frequently. I wouled have to restart in order for it to start again. Is there any thing I can do to fix the screen? Also I can't get anything else on the screen.
