email using up 1.65gb in iCloud

Hi guys

I've searched through lots of forums but still can't get a handle on this. According to my iCloud settings my email is using up 1.65gb. I have deleted all but a very few emails by moving them onto my desktop hard drive. I have at most a couple of hundred emails left on iCloud. Yet having done all that the amount of storage has remained the same. Is there some other step I have to take to actually delete these emails from iCloud's servers? I can't access them from any of my advices, they are no longer available, yet they're still hogging 1.65gb as far as iCloud is concerned.

I've wasted 2 hours of my time on this stupid problem so would really love some good advice.

Go to iCloud/Mail and see if the e-mails are there. If so, delete them.

Sorry, I obviously didn't make it clear. I deleted them all from iCloud itself, not from Mail on my desktop. But despite that, iCloud is still showing 1.65gb devoted to a few emails.

Try making a new On My Mac mailbox and copy the e-mails there. Then delete them from the iCloud inbox.

Well, I did that with all but 100 emails previously but it made no difference. It will be interesting to see what happens if I completely delete my icloud mail both on the desktop and in icloud itself!
