how do I save iBook PDF files from my iphone to my laptop

How do I save iBook PDF files from my iphone to my laptop?
In the past I've been able to backed up iBook & IGenie apps
without any problem and save them as accessable PDF's on my laptop.

I've tried the traditional proocess of linking cable to laptop & backing up in itunes,
but they're not backing up to my laptop. I'm using a slightly older mac OS 10.6.8
.

iPhone 5, iOS 8.4.1
