Spam sent from my Iphone

Hi!!

I'm writing today because my mother's email I think got hacked....I keep receiving spam emails from her. They are sent directly to my spam folder and include a link and at the bottom say "Sent from my iPhone". We've already changed her password and another one was sent after. I know the iOS cannot be hacked but is there any reason why it says "Sent from my iPhone"? Or is that just part of the spam in her email?

To be clear, she uses a Yahoo email address (I've tried to get her to change it but she won't "too many people have that email address blah blah blah"). And when I look closely at her email address it is "@sdnv.de" not the regular @yahoo.com. Aside from changing her full email address...is there anything I'm not thinking of?

Thanks everyone!

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

Faking the return address is brain dead simple and adding "Sent from my iPhone" to an email is just as easy. That's just part of the spam message itself.

It's very possible that her email account was hacked or she managed to get something on her PC that has harvested her contacts from her address book.

If that's the case, other than having her change the password on her Yahoo account and run a virus scan and anti-malware on her PC to ensure it's not infected, there is pretty much nothing you or anyone else can do about it.

Odds are that the spam filters on your mail server are recognizing the forged address and dumping the messages into your spam folder. She may want to warn the people that are in her address book about the fact that she's been compromised.
