Compressor 4.2 in Partition with Yosemite OS

My MacBook Pro is happily running OS 10.8.5 with Final Cut 7 and the older Compressor 4.0.7,

VERY nicely for burning Blu Rays. I export QT mov , and open in Toast 11 and burn Blu Rays

with an external Lacie D2 burner.

But I would like to burn Blu Rays with Compressor 4.1 or 4.2, for more options and higher quality,

which requires Maverick or Yosemite.

I am toying with upgrading to Maverick or Yosemite in a separate partition, and then

purchase Compressor 4.2 and install it in that partition, and burn my Blu Rays from that partition.

Has anyone tried this?? Would this involve dragging the exported QT mov files to an external

hard drive and then dragging them into the other partition with Yosemite and Compressor 4.2.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
