Hi, i was sure if your talking about folder icon or application so ill list both.
Folder Icon Replace :
First you need to google a folder icon pack from google, (it depends you could make your own) after you have download it, it should be in folder form, you click in, and you should see many pictures in .jpg .png and blah. click the photo and it should pop up with Photo Review and just click on the pic and copy the picture with either command + C , right click or Edit. After you've done it. click on the folder once so you just highlighting it or simply highlight it, then do command + I or Edit.
So now your popped up with a window, you see the top left corner? a small icon of the folder? click it once so you should be able to see around the folder there is a thick blue highlight around it then type command + v to paste, now you should see the folder icon change. If not , do tell, best if with pics.!
Application Icon :
This one is bit harder since you can't just do command + I when putting a mouse on the dock.
simply redo the steps of the copying part.
go to Finder > Application. (Pretend i was going to change a firefox icon.) scroll down when you see the application, do the same with command + I, then change the icon like how it was done with the folder, i don't know about yours but i have a admin account so i have to enter the admin name and password for it to change since i don't have the Admin permission, after your done you'll look at the dock and there was no change.
1. Remove the application you were changing icons.
2. Drag out the new ( Application you choose) to the dock so the icon will be updated.
Done!
Beware you have to remove the Application and drag out a new one for the change to apply! Remember to always save before do so! Better save than sorry!
