how long should it take to compress a 3.6gb video for vimeo

How long should it take to compress video using Vimeo settings?

I am trying to compress my 3.6 GB video for use on Vimeo. I made the movie using Final Cut Pro 7 and am compressing with Compressor.
Using the drag and drop method, I am using the basic Vimeo specs given in Compressor.

H. 264 video with stereo AAC audio
44.100 kHz

Format: QT

Extension: .mov

1280 X 720
Pixel aspect ratio: square

FR: 23.976

Multi-pass and frame re-order: on

How long should I expect the compression to take? I'm a bit worried because I followed the same procedure yesterday, let it run all night, and got up this morning to a "failure" notice.

Thanks so much!

It's apparently a 17inch with Core2 Duo processor, which is a fine machine but not as speedy as MBPs with more recent chips.

The encoding times still seem excessive. I was thinking 5-6 hours at the outside (3 to 4 times real time).

In QuickTime Player please open the video file that you exported from fCP. Press Command-i to bring up the Inspector, What does it say about format?

Russ,

I'm not sure whether this is what you want: I had to open another version of the movie in order to open it with QuickTime Player. The information given there about format is "16-bit integer (Little Endian) Stereo, 48,000 kHz".

One problem may be that I was not able to export the movie using QuickTime Conversion, so I simply used "Send" to send it directly to Compressor. From there I dragged and dropped the Vimeo settings to begin the submission. It seems to be stuck on 9 hours.

I was not able to export the movie using QuickTime Conversion where I manually entered the specs because I kept getting an Unrendered prompt. However, several times I had selected the entire film and attempted to render it all again. Nonetheless, once in Quicktime Conversion, the red bars would appear and I would get the prompt.

Perhaps I should have made a .mov and then opened it with Compressor, etc. I'm wondering whether I should cancel and start over?
