Problems opening files in Pages

I have a MacBook Pro using OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5

Pages 4.3 (1048)

When I try to open a pages file created in May 2015, I get a 'The required index .xml file is missing' . I love my MAC but frustrated by all of the error messages and challenges opening files. What is the work around to prevent getting this error message?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Apple changed the document architecture between Pages '09 v4.3 and any release of Pages v5. Pages '09 uses an internal index.xml file, and Pages v5 does not. Quit Pages '09, and double-click the document to open it correctly in Pages v5.
