Besides the known issue of greatest hits being mangled, it seems that album art is not on the mark either.
I check the songs in iTunes and the have the right artwork, but the song in the iPod is different artist and album
seems that quality assurance testing is rather pathetic at best

As well as the issue of common albums names improper use of the sort fields can cause problems. See Grouping tracks into albums for more. In addition should the device's artwork cache become corrupt nothing but a restore and reload can rebuild it.

do you have any idea how long it takes to sync up 160gb of music onto an ipod classic?
Yes, not that I've had to do it for some time, fully loading a 128Gb iPhone takes some time too.

If it were up to me iTunes would have some tools to verify the database and artwork caches on the device, but I'm just another user.
