how do I take a screen shot and e-mail it

To take a screen shot see the instructions below from How to take a screenshot on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top or side of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then immediately press and release the Home button.

You can find the screenshot in your Photos app.

To email it, open Photos, tap the photo in question and then tap the square with up arrow icon and select Mail.
