Why is it when I put a song in GarageBand does it replace another song in a spot I didn't want it?

So, I've been trying for an hour and this is very terribly upsetting me. I try to insert an audio file by dragging it where I want to go but it almost always replaces the song at the top. This makes me very upset and it has only worked once or twice.
