im trying to convert my itunes music to mp3 format

im on my iTunes account and im attempting to convert my music to mp3 so I can play in my car. I want to load it to my jump drive as MP3. some are showing MP3 while other music show mp4. what am I doing wrong?

iPad Air Wi-Fi, Cellular, iOS 7.0.6

You can use iTunes to convert the files per this guide:

iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support


Note that the conversion creates a new file in the designated format, and leaves the original in place, so you library will have both versions. Make sure to use the MP3 for your car.


Also note that any "protected" files cannot be converted and cannot be used in any non-Apple device.
