Safari search does not give me website I want; gives error msg asking me to call a 1=800

I am using an I-Pad version 7.1.2. Every time I try to search for something on Safari or Google, I get either an error message telling me to call a 1-800 # or a message saying that if I click on ok, I will win a prize, or if I take a survey, I will win a prize. The search does not take me to a website. I did not click on anything but instead turned off my I-Pad and rebooted but each time I tried to do a search it gave me a pop-up message. Does anyone have an answer for this?

1. Reset the iPad.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on your iPad.

Simultaneously press and hold down the “Home” button” until the screen turns off.

Turn it back on.

2. Clear information from your device

iOS 7

Tap Settings > Safari > Clear History > Clear Cookies and Data.

iOS 8

Tap Settings > Safari >“Clear History” and then tap “Clear History and Website Data ”.
