how do I show inspector on pages for mac air

I am trying to format a book to self publish on kindle and am having a really hard time. I have a mac air with yosemite 10.10.5. I purchased a book on how to publish using a mac, and his computer must be older and the information isn't helping me. Anyone who can recommend a resource for how to accomplish this using pages? I would be really grateful to hear from you. Thank you!

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Re the question in the title: "how do I show inspector on pages for mac air" -- for the current version of Pages (5.5.3) -- View menu > Inspector > Show Inspector.

Probably any book you picked up about publishing with Pages was for Pages '09 v4.3 — a totally different, and more fully featured word processor than what is represented by Pages v5.5.3. Many of the featues that you need to layout a book are absent in Pages v5.5.3.

What you will get from the View Inspector menu, is already on your Pages v5.5.3 toolbar as Format and Document icons. Apple did not write a user guide for Pages v5.5.3 as they did for Pages '09.
