Update Badge not showing in iOS 8.4.1

A badge indicating the number of app updates available used to appear on both the iStore folder and the App Store icon in iOS 6.1.6 (and earlier). But on my iPod Touch 6 running iOS 8.1.4, the badge now appears only on the Update tab after entering the iStore. Both Badges and Banners are turned on for the App Store in Settings > Notifications. Has Apple removed this feature? Or is there something else I have to do to turn it on?

iPod touch, iOS 8.4.1, 6th Gen 32 gb

Do you have Automatic Updates turned on in Settings>iTunes and App Store?

Maybe yes, maybe no. AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS is on for Updates. SUGGESTED APPS is off for My Apps and App Store. (Note: ALL CAPS is what I see on the iPod)

I guess I now understand what you are saying. In order for the badge to appear, I need to turn OFF Automatic Downloads. Which is probably how it was set up on my iPod Touch 4 gen.

Having similar issue with iPhone 5s: Also sometimes a number badge will appear but after going into app store there are 2 or 3 more updates available than the badge indicates. I never turn on automatic updates and it's not on now.
