Wifi Off = We could not complete your iTunes Store request

I am running iTunes 12.2.2.25 on OS X 10.9.5 on a MBPro retina.

Whenever I am disconnected from the network (Wifi and ethernet) I get spurious messages from iTunes stating:

"We could not complete your iTunes Store request.

The network connection could not be established.

There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."

Previously, iTunes was smart enough to know that because I was not connected to any network that it should not attempt iTunes Store transactions and therefore not bother me with failed network connections.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

Because of the lack on information, I cannot give you a definitive answer as to why this is occurring but something to get into the habit of doing is to go ahead and update your OS and this may clear up any possible glitches.

Can't promise anything but it is a good place to start.

iTunes 12.3.0.44 still exhibits this brain-dead behavior. Anyone else?
