I recently updated and can say I am quite disappointed. I like having my recently added playlist to have the songs that I just added on top and then the older ones toward the bottom but now it is just doing it in alphabetical order. I have tried going into edit smart playlist and it says that it is sorting it the way I want but it isn't! It is driving me insane.
Use the drop down at the top right of the iTunes window to change your view from Playlist to Songs. You can then determine sort order by enabling columns / clicking on column headings.

I did as you suggested and it still loads in alphabetical order to my nano 7. What I discovered that it is sorting by icloud mode instead of manual mode even though I have manual checked. Help-thanks!
Ugh! Had the same issue and finally figured it out.. Go into your Settings- Music-library. You can then choose how you want to Sort songs and albums... Hope this fixes it for you!
I do NOT want my recently added playlist in alphabetical order.
