Final Cut Pro 10.2.1
I can create Libraries
I can edit current projects
I can export and do pretty much all other editing jobs...
I just can't create a new project or event without Final Cut immediately crashing (beachball of death).
I have trashed preferences
I have checked permissions
I have prayed
I am going to reinstall, but just wondering if anyone has encountered this!

When you launch fCO, hold down the option and command keys. That will accomplish a couple of things: 1) the ability to delete your preferences )particularly important after a crash); 2) it will open a fresh library with a new event.
Import some new clips (that you haven't used in your problem library). Crate a test project and edit the clips to the timeline.

Nothing worked, I had to do a reinstall which wasn't too painful (thanks fast work internet).
That worked.
It is still hanging longer on some tasks than it used to (eg. duplicating a 3d Text generator). But it eventually catches up and completes the task.
